Sen. Schiff Statement on Republicans’ Reconciliation Bill, Cash Grab for Billionaires

Washington D.C. — Today, Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) released the following statement ahead of the Senate vote on the budget resolution:

“Republicans are about to vote for massive tax cuts to benefit Donald Trump and his billionaire friends, by gutting the healthcare and other services ordinary Americans, seniors and veterans rely upon. Trump’s budget will do nothing to bring down prices or the cost of living.

“Hard working Californians deserve lower costs, and a government that is working for them, not against them. And as the cost of gas, groceries, and housing soars, this budget will make matters worse by gutting Medicaid, healthcare access and food assistance. To Republicans, gutting help for working and middle class families to pay for tax cuts for billionaires is a tradeoff worth making. To me, it is not.

“We must continue working to lower costs, address the housing crisis, and improve access to healthcare for Californians. Not give tax cuts to billionaires. This budget is a cash grab for billionaires at the expense of working families. I’ll be voting no.”
