Washington D.C. — This past weekend, U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) made his first visit to San Diego since being sworn into the U.S. Senate.
Schiff toured the Del Mar Bluffs hearing directly from local and state leaders regarding the stabilization efforts. The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) and North County Transit District (NCTD) hosted leaders to discuss the importance of funding the Del Mar Bluff Stabilization Project, which aims to maintain a stable track bed along the coastal bluffs and protect the railroad from continued erosion, landslides, and seismic events.
“This is a must do project, not a would be nice to do. We are not going to have the train falling into the sea,” Schiff said. “I am gravely concerned about the temporary halt or freeze or imperiling of funds for this project and many others.” Schiff was joined by federal, state, and local leaders from various transportation agencies and organizations.
Following the tour of the Bluffs, Schiff met with business leaders from San Diego to discuss the potential impacts of President Trump’s proposed tariffs and federal funding concerns. The leaders participating at this roundtable ranged from several industries including manufacturing, education, cybersecurity, defense, technology, and aerospace. In early February, Schiff sounded the alarm over the Trump administration’s proposed funding cuts to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) which would create a severe funding shortfall for research institutions across California and the nation.
