Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) released the following statement marking his first 100 days since being sworn in to serve a full term:
“Over the past 100 days, I have had the opportunity to travel across the Golden State and meet with constituents in every corner of this state — from the Imperial Valley’s Mid-Winter Fair to affordable housing efforts in Oakland, from visiting citrus farmers in Bakersfield to the technology hubs of the Bay Area, from touring the Del Mar Bluffs in San Diego to visiting the state’s capital, and everywhere in between.
“I’ve seen firsthand the immense challenges that Californians are facing, from ensuring communities receive the federal aid needed to rebuild from the devastating Los Angeles fires, to protecting farmers and farmworkers in the Central Valley, to tackling housing affordability up and down the state, to addressing the Tijuana River Crisis and the environmental catastrophe of the Salton Sea, all amidst a chaotic Trump Administration making things more expensive and simply harder for working families.
“I have also taken time to get to know the Senate: To sit down with Senators on both sides of the aisle to find common ground because we need to get things done for our country. To dig into my new committee assignments and new issues that we must confront. To introduce my first bipartisan bill to help Americans make their homes more resilient against wildfires and other natural disasters. To conduct rigorous oversight. And to meet with folks who have real challenges and deserve real solutions, not political posturing.
“While the Trump Administration is damaging our economy with reckless tariffs and tearing down the guardrails of our democracy, I am working hard to protect the rights and the freedoms of Californians and the American people. I will keep fighting to lower costs for families, address the housing crisis, improve access to health care, and protect our democracy.”

Key highlights of Senator Schiff’s first 100 days:
Senator Schiff has been steadfast in his response to supporting communities impacted by the recent Los Angeles-area fires and has led efforts to promote community resilience against potential disasters:
Schiff introduced his first bipartisan legislation with Senator Tim Sheehy (R-Mont.) the Facilitating Increased Resilience, Environmental Weatherization and Lowered Liability Act (FIREWALL), a bill aimed at promoting community resilience to natural disasters through the creation of a new federal tax credit.
Along with Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), Schiff led 47 bipartisan members of the California Congressional delegation in successfully urging former President Biden to grant Governor Gavin Newsom’s request for a major disaster declaration in response to the deadly Los Angeles fires to expedite timely relief to help residents recover and rebuild. Additionally, Schiff, Padilla, Rep. Ken Calvert, and Rep. Zoe Lofgren led the entire California delegation to successfully push FEMA to extend the application deadline for federal disaster assistance for victims of the Los Angeles fires.
Schiff has been working with his colleagues to conduct oversight of President Trump’s Administration. He recently led efforts in the Senate to demand an investigation into potential insider trading and corruption ahead of President Trump’s tariff pause. Schiff also led a bicameral spotlight hearing calling out the President’s attempts to tear apart the rule of law and dismantle democracy. The Senator has denounced the Administration’s unlawful firings of dozens of independent agency heads and inspectors general and calling attention to how many of these firings appear to benefit Elon Musk. He has also raised the alarm about mass layoffs at federal agencies including but not limited to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and has called on the Administration to refrain from making cuts to Medicare and Medicaid to pay for tax cuts for billionaires.
Working with Democratic colleagues to force votes on the Senate floor: Amidst the Trump Administration’s reckless federal funding and hiring freezes, Schiff urged the Administration to exempt federal firefighters from these freezes, which stalled the onboarding of thousands of seasonal firefighters. Schiff also proposed an amendment to the budget resolution that called for reinstating firefighters laid off by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and exempting federal firefighters and Forest Service employees from the ongoing hiring freeze instituted by President Trump. In February, Schiff blasted Senate Republicans for blocking a resolution to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Since being sworn in, Schiff has traveled across the state, speaking to constituents and meeting with local stakeholders. He’s made stops across the Imperial Valley, the Central Valley, the Bay Area, San Diego and across Los Angeles County. He will continue visiting different parts of the state.
Schiff has participated at multiple public events and speeches to call out the Trump Administration: In early April, Schiff delivered remarks on the Senate floor to remind Americans that President Trump is working for billionaires at the expense of hard-working Americans. He also spoke publicly in opposition to RFK Jr’s nomination as U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary and speaking for more than an hour against Russ Vought’s nomination as director of the Office of Management and Budget. Every week since the start of his term, Schiff has participated in interviews with national and state media to talk about the actions he’s taking in Congress.
