Los Angeles, CA — Today, U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and U.S. Representative Judy Chu (D-Calif.-28) toured debris removal sites in Altadena to learn about the progress of Phase 2 of the debris removal process, which is led by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Schiff was joined by representatives of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Schiff highlighted the need to continue pushing for additional funding to help recovery and cleanup efforts.
Schiff, Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), Rep. Ken Calvert (R-Calif.-41), and Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.-18) led the entire California delegation in successfully pushing FEMA to extend the application deadline for federal disaster assistance for victims of the Los Angeles fires.
The deadline to apply for disaster assistance is March 31st. Schiff and leaders also emphasized that opting in to the Army Corps of Engineers debris removal program will be at no cost to homeowners.
