Washington, D.C. — Today, Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) released the following statement on President Donald Trump’s executive order to attempt to dismantle the Presidio Trust:
“The Presidio is a national treasure for San Francisco and the entire country. More than that, the Presidio Trust is a proud, bipartisan accomplishment written in statute – established by a Republican Congress in 1996 and has received the same enthusiastic bipartisan support ever since.
“President Trump cannot unilaterally decide what parts of the federal government are unnecessary, as his executive order claims, and he cannot claw back funds under the Inflation Reduction Act that have already been obligated. Congress established the Presidio Trust through statute, and the president cannot override statute without Congress.
“I plan to work with Speaker Emerita Pelosi to ensure the Presidio and those who enjoy its beautiful surroundings have the support they need to keep this jewel of the region thriving for generations to come.”
