Washington, D.C. — In case you missed it, yesterday Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) was sworn in to serve as California’s next United States Senator. Vice President Kamala Harris conducted the proceedings.

Background:
U.S. Senator Alex Padilla and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi escorted Schiff to his swearing-in. Padilla joined Schiff on the Senate floor as he took the oath of office.
Schiff was sworn in on a Maimonides Mishneh Torah: A monumental legal code and one of the most organized, comprehensive, and influential works of Jewish law. This edition was printed in Italy in 1490, per the Library of Congress.
Schiff will now fulfill the rest of former Senator Dianne Feinstein’s term in the United States Senate.
