Resources Available Right Now:
Individual disaster assistance provides assistance for home repairs, temporary housing, property damage (appliances, furniture, vehicle, etc), food, clothing, temporary shelter, medical expenses, child care costs and more.
Access assistance for homeowners, renters, nonprofits, and businesses of all sizes.
The Governor’s Office of Emergency Services lists Recovery Resource guides for Access and Functional Needs, Aging Services, Air Monitoring, Health Information, Record Replacement, Veterans Assistance, and more.
The California Department of Insurance provides resources to help consumers make and settle their insurance claims.
Apply for unemployment benefits through the California Employment Development Department.
The CalFresh Program, also known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), provides monthly benefits that can be used to buy food at most markets and grocery stores.
DOCUMENT AND RECORD REPLACEMENT:
Emergency Passport Replacement
- If your passport, or your child’s passport, was lost or damaged in the fire, please reach out to our office and we will gladly assist you with a replacement.
- Email Schiff_California@schiff.senate.gov with your request and we will be in touch as soon as possible.
Birth Certificate, Death Certificate, and Marriage Record Replacement
- Birth, death, and marriage records should be requested from the county recorder’s office in the county where the event occurred. For more information and a list of county recorders, visit the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) website:
- Drivers License, Identification Card, and Certificates of Title Replacement
- The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) can assist individuals in replacing DMV documents that were lost as a result of the disaster. Please visit the DMV website for more information: http://www.dmv.ca.gov./
Evacuation Centers:
If you are evacuating and need shelter, text “SHELTER” and your zip code to 43362. You will be provided with the address of your nearest shelter. Residents are able to call 211 for information regarding shelters, and social and health services.
Los Angeles County residents who have been displaced from their homes or forced to evacuate due to the wildfires can apply for temporary housing through an Airbnb and 211 LA partnership here. Information on local shelters and other resources for Los Angeles County is also available here.
